We are an appointment ONLY shop. We do not take walk-ins.
All of our artist are generally booked 3-4 months in advance which does not allow time for walk-ins. We ask that you do not "pop in" to visit our shop to look around or try to consult about your tattoo ideas. Since we are generally tattooing all day, there may not be anyone available to assist you as we are dedicating our time to the client in our chair that has paid for our time, energy, and focus. For any tattoo inquiries, please reach out first to one of our artist via their "contact" button on our website. They will provide further instructions on how to proceed with booking through your email correspondence if your ideas align with their style. Thanks!
Deposits:
All deposits are non-refundable. When scheduling a tattoo appointment, we require a deposit to secure your spot on the schedule. This is no money lost to you for it comes off the top of the price of the tattoo the day of your appointment. The amount of the deposit due is based off of the length of the tattoo session booked. When multiple tattoo sessions are scheduled, the deposit will be rolled over the to the following appointment. Deposits are forfeited if you are a no call, no show the day of your appointment or cancel/reschedule within 72 hours. The deposit is also forfeited if you are more than 15 minutes late to your appointment. Please be respectful of the artist's time. The deposit is forfeited to pay for the artist's time.
Consultations:
An in-person consultation may be requested by your artist when designing a custom tattoo. We do always require a consultation for sleeve-work. Please bring all final concepts, ideas, and references with you to your appointment. Any major changes to your ideas and concept after the consultation, voids the purpose of having one in the first place and could result in the need to reschedule your tattoo appointment. Your artist may then request a new consultation to review new ideas and start the process over for designing your custom ideas. Tattoo appointments are scheduled before leaving the consultation. In general, you may be looking at 6-8 months before the needle hits skin when starting your tattoo journey.
Tattoo drawings:
Your custom tattoo drawing will be seen the day of your appointment. Any revisions that stay within the idea discussed at the consultation can be made on the day of your appointment. Any major changes in design could result in the need to reschedule your tattoo appointment. All of our artists have full schedules which does not allow time to design each client's project weeks in advance and we want to ensure we can dedicate our full concentration to each client's design. Designs are generally not emailed out in advance for review to ensure custom artwork remains within our shop.
Guest policy:
Please come alone to your tattoo consultation and tattoo appointments. This allows the artist to channel all of their focus, time, and energy into you and your tattoo design.
No group appointments:
Unfortunately, due to our shop size and the difficulty coordinating schedules and artistic styles, we do not do group tattoos. Each tattoo inquiry will be handled individually by the tattoo artist.
18 and over policy:
Iowa state law prohibits anyone under the age of 18 from getting a tattoo. And no, we cannot accept parent or guardian consent. You must be at least 18 years old and must provide a valid government issued photo ID in order to get tattooed.
Shop minimum:
Our shop minimum is $100.
Animals:
Service dogs are welcome at Starlite Tattoos, but otherwise all pets are prohibited in our shop.
Hand and finger policy:
The skin on fingers, especially on the sides of fingers, is calloused and never heals well. The pigment usually falls out during the healing process so will be spotty or completely gone within the first 2-4 weeks. A few of the artists in our shop do not do finger tattoos. It is also very difficult to heal hand tattoos since it's impossible to not use your hands for 2-3 weeks while it is healing and a tattoo is an open wound. This opens it up to the possibility of infection and also general rubbing. It will impair the healing process and for these reasons, we do not guarantee hand or finger tattoos. Most hand and finger tattoos generally need to be touched up and you will be financially responsible for all touch-ups. An example is posted (not our work) and the after is after only 6 weeks of healing.

Face and ear tattoos:
We do not do face or ear tattoos in our shop. Designs behind the ear will be done at the discretion of the artist and the details of the specific design.
White ink tattoos:
We do not do white ink tattoos at our shop. Our skin color is in the first layer of the epidermis which impacts the final color of a tattoo. This can lead to the white turning brownish or yellowish over time and it usually takes a few months for the undertones to show up. Since white ink is the lightest pigment, wear and tear over time and sun exposure can cause your tattoo to completely disappear in a short amount of time. We are geared towards providing every client with the best tattoo possible that will hold up for the longevity of their lifetime.
Micro tattoos:
We do not do micro tattoos. Micro tattoos are fine-lined very small designs. They are very cute and trendy but unfortunately they do not hold up well over time. With age, the dark lines of a small tattoo will seemingly merge or disappear all together. A couple examples are posted in the photo (which is not our work).
